Phil Whalley competed in the third event of the Blast Paddlers Summer Series held at Botany on Australia Day.
Approximately 100 paddlers turned out for the event, battling with rough seas, overcast weather and humidity.
Several paddlers fell out of their vessels due to the choppy seas.
Phil battled it out with six other sea kayakers to take out 1st place in the 10km event in a time of 1hour and 13 minutes, no mean feat.
Chook, as he is known by club members, is looking forward to Event 4 in the Summer Series, to be held at Cronulla in February.
